Al-Jazeera journalist shot dead in Syria


BEIRUT - A sniper killed Al-Jazeera journalist named Mohammed Hourani in the southern Syrian province of Daraa on Friday (19/01/2013). The news was reported by television station headquartered in Qatar.

"Mohammed Hourani was killed by sniper fire from the regime in Basr al-Haris, Daraa province, when he was covering the war that occurred in the area," he told Al-Jazeera from broadcasting.

Before joining Al-Jazeera, Hourani is a revolution activists who want to lose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Hourani was the second journalist killed by gunman distance in 24 hours in Syria, which is experiencing a civil war.



Earlier on Thursday, a French journalist, Yves Deaby, was also shot dead in the northern city of Aleppo. This was disclosed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

According to an AFP count and the organization Reporters Without Borders, based in Paris, France, at least 20 journalists have been killed in Syria during the 22 months of the conflict in that country. The number of deaths was not taking into account other civilian deaths were recorded non-journalist violence in Syria reported to the world.
