Apple's dependence on supplies from Samsung processor would slowly be reduced. It is after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reportedly has begun sending order processor that the iPhone maker.
It was reported by the Wall Street Journal, Friday (07/11/2014), which cites a source who claims to know the problem.
In 2013, TSMC was contracted by Apple to supply the iPhone and iPad processors. Some analysts doubt the agreement, because they think TSMC will be unable to meet demand for Apple's quota.
If true TSMC has started shipping the processors, this means that Apple has not really hung the fate of the processor supply to Samsung.
Apple had long wanted to reduce or even eliminate dependence on Samsung. That's because Samsung has become one of the heavy competitor for Apple in the smartphone market. Also since both are still sue each other in court regarding patent infringement.
A7 processor is currently used in a number of Apple's latest product is manufactured by Samsung.
Looking ahead, Apple and TSMC will likely begin production processors with 16 nanometer technology. But for now, TSMC is producing processors with 20 nanometer technology from Apple.
